We are Reduce the Use, an independent and impartial information resource for businesses looking to reduce their carbon footprint and increase their green credentials. Our mission is to bring together all of the information and legislation that relates to greener business and encourage more companies to engage with their environmental objectives and obligations.

The Environment is all of our business

Green issues and sustainability are now among some of the highest priorities for businesses in the United Kingdom, thanks largely to an increased focus on the environment from the media as well as new government targets and incentive schemes. What was once seen as an expense for businesses in the past, reducing waste has become a legitimate business function that will only continue to grow in importance and scale.

Reduce The Use Has Been Recycled and Redeveloped

After months of planning and redevelopment, Reduce The Use has a new website to help it move into the 21st century and continue to bring businesses into a greener way of thinking.

We have rewritten, redesigned and rejiggered the entire site to make sure that you will be able to find the information you are looking for fast, and that it is presented in a more aesthetically pleasing way.

A site of this size has its challenges, and with only two of us at the helm of this behemoth you will undoubtedly come across various formatting errors and information which needs updating. Bear with us, as over the next few months we will be coming in and fixing things up. If you spot any glaring problems, please get in contact.

UK Investment in Green Energy Declining

Difficult financial times always means that concessions have to be made across the budget board, but will the government’s commitment to green energy have a serious effect on green targets?

The Guardian’s environment correspondent published an article in which she stated:

“…the £2.5bn investment announced since April showed little progress from 2010, when £2.1bn was poured into renewables and other low-carbon forms of energy in the UK, according to the US-based thinktank Pew Environment Group.

The 2010 figure was itself a dramatic fall of 70% compared with the investment reached in 2009, when at least £7.1bn was put into the sector.

DECC said this year’s investment figures were the first it had compiled, so direct comparisons with previous years have not been possible because Pew’s methodology was likely to be different. However, the department agreed that Pew’s figures could be used as an indication.”
