The Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) Regulations affect users, producers, suppliers and servicing engineers and those involved in the disposal of all ODSs including Fire Protection Systems, Fixed and Portable.
Halons:
- Halon Systems cannot be refilled even with recovered, recycled or reclaimed halons
- Mandatory decommissioning had to be completed by the end of 2003
- The only exemption was the use of halons in a limited number of “critical uses”; for example, in certain military and aerospace applications; the critical uses are listed in the Annex of the Regulations.
CBM or Halon 1011: The supply and use of CBM (an explosion suppression agent) is prohibited. Systems containing CBM could be used until they required refilling or topping.
