We all have a responsibility to ensure that we don’t damage the environment through any course of action we take but those of us in Business have more responsibilities. Although the Environment may be well down your list of priorities, it is becoming more important than you may realise; if you ignore your legal responsibilities, the penalties could be sufficient to close your business – or even land you in prison.
Is the Environment on your priority list?
There are sound business reasons why you should become more environmentally aware; it could increase your profits.
It Should Be
There are costs associated with every aspect of running a business. There are some costs over which you have little or no control – rent, rates, staff, etc – but there are others that can be controlled; it is these that you need to reduce. We all know that, by changing our electricity or gas supplier, we can save money but is that enough? It’s cheaper but we are still using the same amount – or possibly more. It is a definite benefit to your Bottom Line but it does not help the environment; remember that you could save even more if you looked at the ways in which you are using these and other commodities.
We recommend that you accept responsibility for the environmental impact of your Business by reducing Energy Consumption, Minimising Waste and complying with relevant Legislation – and it could make your Bottom Line a little healthier!
If you employ people, make sure that they know what you are doing and why you are doing it – involve them at all stages; much of what they learn at work could be implemented in their homes – a double benefit.
